What is the Tile function

The Tile feature, available to any paid subscription user, allows you to create images that can be seamlessly tiled without visible borders or interruptions. This can be particularly useful for image creators, providing an easy way to generate seamless backgrounds, textures, and patterns directly from a prompt.

The Tile function is only available in Ideogram version 1.0. Make sure the 1.0 model is selected; otherwise, the Tile option in the More menu will be greyed out.

To access the Tile function and select a specific tiling pattern, or tap the prompt box to reveal the options at the bottom and make sure that version 1.0 is selected. Then, click the More icon located at the end of the prompt box option tabs to open a popup menu with the available choices.

From there, you can click on the arrow to the right of the tab to access a selection of available tile styles.

The grid options that are available.

Here are the available tile arrangments:

• Off:

  • This option will not use the tile functionality.

• Grid

  • The images will be arranged in a checkered grid.

• Vertical brick

  • Each image in a column will be offset vertically by half the height of the image in relation to the adjacent ones on the left and right.

• Horizontal brick

  • Each image in a row will be offset horizontally by half the width of the image in relation to the adjacent ones above or below.

• Column

  • This option will tile the images in a single column.

• Row

  • This option will tile the images in a single row, which is useful for creating banners.

Here are some visual examples of each grid style:

No tile (generated without tile)

This is the image that will be remixed to generate the tile examples.

Grid (4x4)

This is the most common type of tile, arranged in a chequered grid.

Vertical brick (4x4)

Here you can see that the columns are aligned but the rows alternate.

Horizontal brick (4x4)

Here, on the contrary, you can see that the rows are aligned but the columns alternate.

Column (1x1)

It's often a good idea to create your image in the same direction of the column (or row) to minimize the effect of repetition.

Column (2x1)

Row (1x1)

Here, the image was generated horizontally to get the maximum number of bottle and avoid the effect of repetition.

Row (2x1)

When viewing the generated images, you can toggle the tile’s animation by clicking the play or pause button in the upper corner, depending on the current state of the animation.

You can also adjust the on-screen tile pattern’s size using the tile scale slider located at the top right, just below the play/pause button.

Downloading tiles

You can download your seamless tile images in two different ways:

1. While viewing the image, you can click on the more icon to bring up the menu, then select Download. You will then have multiple choices on how many repetitions you want of the tile, horizontally and vertically, in the final image.

The available formats that can be downloaded. The column and row tile formats will contain different values.

1. While viewing the images in your feed, you can use the "Select" tool or drag over the images to choose the ones you want to download. When you click the "Download" button, the 1x1 and 2x2 tile images will be automatically downloaded in a .ZIP file.

Sometimes you come across a beautiful image that you think you could use as a banner, gift wrap or website background. In such cases, it can be a good idea to use the Remix function in conjunction with the Tile function to obtain the perfect image you’re looking for. Here are a few examples:
