# Collections

Organize AI images and videos in nested collections, save new results to a folder, and share with teammates. Understand inherited access, move confirmations and safe deletion.

A collection is a folder for your images and videos. One item can sit in many collections. Click **Collections** in the left sidebar to see yours.

In your personal workspace the page has **All** and **Pinned** tabs. In a team workspace: **All**, **My collections**, **Shared by you**, **Shared with me** and **Pinned**. Switch between grid and list layout at the top.

## Create a collection

1. On the Collections page, click **Create**.
2. Type a **Name**, up to 64 characters.
3. To put it inside another collection, click **Choose location** and pick the parent.
4. Click **Create**.

When you start a collection from the picker while saving images, the button reads **Create and add**. That creates the collection and adds the images in one step.

## Add images

You can add items from three places.

### Save new images to a collection while you generate

Every app, Image and Video included, has an **Add to Collection** field next to **Generate**.

1. Click the **Add to Collection** field.
2. Pick a collection.
3. Generate. The results save into it.

Click the **x** to clear the field.

### Add several images from Library

1. In **Library** → **Generations** or **Uploads**, select several items. See [Library and Favorites](/organize-and-share/assets.md#select-several-items).
2. Click **Add to collection** in the bar at the bottom.
3. Pick collections in the picker, as below.

### Add one image

1. Open the image.
2. Click **Add to collection** in the action bar.
3. Pick collections in the picker, as below.

You can also find **Add to collection** under **More options** → **Manage**.

### Use the collection picker

Each way opens the same picker.

1. Search for a collection or browse the tree.
2. Tick one or more collections.
3. Click **Add to collection**.

Click **New collection** if the one you want doesn't exist yet.

### Upload files into a collection

1. Open the collection.
2. Click **Add** → **Upload**.
3. Pick files from your computer.

## Nest collections

Collections can sit inside other collections, up to 10 levels deep.

### Add a sub-collection

1. Open the parent collection.
2. Click **Add** → **Sub-collection**.

## Filter a collection

1. Open the collection and select **Filters** above the images. The button hides while you search.
2. Expand **Asset source** to choose **Generated**, **Uploaded** or both.
3. Expand **Tags** to find and select tags used by assets in the collection.
4. Select **Apply filters** to update the results.

Some workspaces also have attribute filters. When available, expand an attribute to choose values or enter a range. Only attributes present in the collection appear.

Your choices stay in the panel until you apply them. **Cancel** closes it without applying changes. Use **Reset selections** in the panel, then **Apply filters**, to remove your selections. You can also remove applied filters from the chips above the grid or select **Clear all**.

## Remove images

### Remove one image from a collection

1. Open the image inside the collection.
2. Choose **More options** → **Remove from this collection**.

### Remove several images from a collection

1. Inside the collection, select the images.
2. Click **Remove from this collection** in the bar.

The images stay in Library.

**Delete from library** is different: it deletes the image itself.

## Collection menu

1. Click **…** on a collection card to open its menu.
2. Click an item from the table below.

| Item | What it does | Who sees the option |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| **Share** | Opens the sharing dialog | Top-level collections in a team workspace |
| **Edit** | Renames the collection | Owner and editors |
| **Move** | Puts the collection inside another one, or back at the top | Owner and team managers |
| **Pin** / **Unpin** | Adds or removes it from the sidebar list under **Collections** | Everyone |
| **Highlight** / **Unhighlight** | Highlights it for the team | Team managers, top-level collections only |
| **Download** | Downloads its contents; shows "Preparing…" while it works | Everyone |
| **Delete** | Deletes the collection after you confirm **Delete collection** | Owner; editors can delete sub-collections only |

When you move a collection, Ideogram may ask "Adopt destination access?", meaning whether it should take on the sharing settings of its new parent. A move fails if it would push anything past 10 levels.

### Move a collection without surprising collaborators

Review **Access changes** when **Adopt destination access?** appears. It compares current permissions with the destination's permissions. **Move and adopt destination access** replaces the collection's sharing settings with the destination's, including everything inside it. Choose **Cancel** if the listed people or groups should keep their current access, then choose another location.

### Delete a collection and keep its images

1. Open the collection's **…** menu and select **Delete**.
2. Leave **Permanently delete all images within collection** unchecked if you only want to remove the folder. The images are not affected by the default choice.
3. Select **Delete collection** to confirm.

The checkbox is a different action: selecting it also asks to permanently delete the images in the collection. To remove just a few images from the folder while keeping them in Library, use **Remove from this collection** instead.

## Share a collection with your team

Sharing works in team workspaces only. In your personal workspace you'll see "Switch to a team workspace to share collections with others." See [Team Plan](/plans-and-billing/team-plan.md).

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the sharing dialog

Open the collection and click **Share**, or pick **Share** from its menu.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Add people

Under **Add people by name or email**, add workspace members. You can't add people outside the workspace. In an Enterprise workspace, the field reads **Add people or groups** and also lets you select an existing group. See [Groups](/plans-and-billing/groups.md).

<figure><img src="https://1799634369-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzjhNby3LLsIikYuvxAJP%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5daaa90ad813fc84b5fcf7a5f5d7613459f0c7c2%2Fcollections-2.png?alt=media" alt="Share collection dialog with the Add people by name or email field highlighted"><figcaption><p>Type a name or email to add a workspace member.</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Set what each person can do

Choose **Can edit** or **Can view**, then select **Share** to add the selected people or groups. You can change or remove existing access from the **Who has access** list.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose general access

Under **General access**, pick who else can open it:

* **Org**: anyone in your organization can view or edit, as you choose.
* **Private**: only people and groups already granted access can open the collection.
  {% endstep %}
  {% endstepper %}

Sub-collections follow their parent. To change who can see one, change the top-level collection it lives in.

### If sharing or editing controls are missing

A person with **Can view** can browse the collection without getting its editing controls. Owners and editors can edit the collection; the owner manages sharing. Sub-collections inherit access from their parent, so open the top-level collection to change those permissions.

If opening a link asks **Switch teams to view this collection?**, the collection belongs to another team you already belong to. Switch to that workspace to view it. A collection's team-sharing settings are separate from publishing its images to the public community.
