# Vocabulary Reference

Prompt words for camera angles, age, body type, skin tones and color names that get more precise images.

Ideogram draws what you name. A precise word ("worm's-eye view", "cranberry red", "toddler") gets you closer than a general one ("from below", "red", "young child"). These lists collect words that work well in prompts:

* [Angle of View and Perspective](/prompting/vocabulary/angle-of-view-and-perspective.md): camera positions and how a subject faces the viewer.
* [Describing Age and Life Stage](/prompting/vocabulary/describing-age-and-life-stage.md): life-stage terms and modifiers, which work better than numeric ages.
* [Describing Body Type](/prompting/vocabulary/describing-body-type.md): neutral words for build and shape.
* [Describing Skin Tones](/prompting/vocabulary/describing-skin-tones.md): depth, undertone and finish.
* [Memory Colors for Naming Color Nuances](/prompting/vocabulary/memory-colors-for-naming-color-nuances.md): everyday color names, grouped by base color.

To steer colors with hex codes, use a [JSON prompt](/prompting/json-prompting.md) on 4.5 or 4.0, or a Custom [Color palette](/create/image-settings.md#color-palette) on 3.0.

## How to use these words in the Image app

Add the terms to the **Prompt** as part of a sentence: `An eye-level portrait of an older adult with a stocky build, warm brown skin and a moss-green jacket.` Choose only details relevant to the picture you want to make; the lists aren't required fields or special commands.

Viewpoint words describe the intended composition. Set the output shape separately with [Aspect ratio](/create/image-settings.md#aspect-ratio-and-size). If a description keeps giving you a different crop, compare the visible body or clothing details with the framing you requested, as explained in [Refine and Iterate](/prompting/refine-and-iterate.md#describe-only-what-should-show).
