Edit Images
The ways to edit an image in Ideogram, from photo restoration and background changes to inpainting and text, and which one to pick.
You can edit photos you upload as well as images you make: restore an old photo, change the background, swap clothing or colors, or fix one detail. Ideogram gives you three ways to change an image. The buttons on the image page are quickest. Studio is for layered work, step by step. Single-purpose apps each do one job with more control.
Buttons on the image page
Open any image to see its page. These buttons sit under it. You need to be signed in to use them.
Edit opens the Precise Edit app with your image loaded. See Edit an image with Precise Edit.
Remove BG opens the Background Remover app with your image. See Remove Backgrounds and Objects.
Upscale opens the Upscale app with your image. See Upscale.
Recreate brings back the full settings that made the image, so you can run it again or tweak it. It shows only on images you generated, not uploads.
Open in app lets you pick any app and opens it with your image.
Use as source shows only when you already have an app open. It sends the image to that app.
Edit an image with Precise Edit
Open the image.
Select Edit. The Precise Edit app opens with your image loaded.

Select Edit to describe a change. Describe the change, like "make the sky orange".
Run it.
Precise Edit needs a paid plan or bought credits. See Apps and Workflows.
Studio
Studio is Ideogram's editor. Open it from the sidebar: More → Studio. Use it when you need more than one pass at an image:
Edit one layer and leave the rest alone
Paint over an area and describe what should change
Extend the canvas or change its aspect ratio
Add text layers, or turn text in the image into layers you can edit (see Text and Layers)
Studio saves as you go. Every canvas-wide edit adds a new version you can go back to.
Single-purpose apps
Each app does one job and shows the controls for that job. Open one from Open in app on the image page, or from Apps in the sidebar.
Makes new images based on yours, guided by a prompt. You set how closely they follow it.
Credits (the button shows the cost)
Cuts out the subject and returns a transparent image. No prompt.
Credits (the button shows the cost)
Edits with Ideogram 4.5 and keeps the image's exact size. You can mask one part and add reference images.
Paid plan or bought credits
The run button in each app shows the cost before you start. See how credits work.
