Prompt Box

Overview

The Prompt Box is the main area where you describe what you want Ideogram to generate. It also contains the generation controls for model, speed, image count, dimensions, references, style, visibility, and submission.

Controls appear only when supported by the selected model, plan, device, or workflow. If a control is not shown, switch to a compatible model or workflow, or use one of the options that is available in the current prompt box.

Core Controls

  1. Prompt field - enter the text prompt for the image you want to create.

  2. Image upload - upload, paste, or drag in an image for supported workflows such as Describe, Remix, Upscale, Style Reference, Character Reference, Open in Canvas or Editor where available, Magic Fill, Extend, Remove BG, or Replace BG.

  3. Model picker - choose the model used for generation. See Available Models.

  4. Render speed - choose an available speed for the selected model. See Render Speed.

  5. Number of images - choose how many outputs to generate where the selected model and workflow support multiple outputs.

  6. Aspect ratio or resolution - choose a preset ratio, custom dimensions, or resolution tier where supported. See Aspect Ratio and Dimensions.

  7. Style - choose a style mode, preset, or Style Reference where supported. See Style Reference.

  8. Character Reference - use a saved or selected character where supported. See Character Reference.

  9. Product and reference features - use supported reference workflows such as product references, style references, custom models, or other account-specific reference tools where public and available.

  10. Color palette - guide the generated image with preset or custom colors where supported. See Color Palette.

  11. More options - open additional model-dependent controls such as Seed Number, Negative Prompt, and Tile where supported.

  12. Magic Prompt - choose whether Ideogram should enhance or expand your prompt. See Magic Prompt.

  13. Public/private visibility - choose whether the generation is public or private where private generation is available. See Private Generations.

  14. Arrow-up submit button - starts the current generation or workflow.

Reference and Workflow Thumbnails

When a reference or workflow is active, a thumbnail can appear in or near the Prompt Box. Common examples include:

  • Style Reference - shows the selected style reference image or saved style.

  • Character Reference - shows the selected character reference.

  • Remix - shows the parent image and remix strength where supported.

  • Upscale - shows the image selected for upscaling and opens Upscale controls.

  • Background workflows - show the image selected for Remove BG or Replace BG where applicable.

Use a thumbnail menu to adjust or remove the active reference when that workflow supports it.

Importing an Image

When you import an image, Ideogram shows the supported actions for that image and your account. Available actions can include:

  • Describe - generate a text description of the image.

  • Remix - use the image as the parent for a new generation.

  • Upscale - increase resolution and detail.

  • Style Reference - use the image's look as style guidance.

  • Character Reference - use the image as a character reference where supported.

  • Open in Canvas or Editor - edit the image where those workflows are available.

  • Magic Fill - edit a masked region with a prompt.

  • Extend - expand the image beyond its current edges.

  • Remove BG - remove the background and create a transparent PNG/cutout.

  • Replace BG - generate a new background from a prompt.

Selecting an action moves you into the relevant workflow and carries the image into the Prompt Box or editor surface as needed.
