Replace/Remove Background

PreviousAvailable ModelsNextBatch Generation

Last updated 24 days ago

The Replace/Remove background feature lets you easily isolate the main subject of an image by removing or changing its background.

This feature is available to all paid plans:

  • Remove background makes the background transparent, leaving only the main subject. This is free (no credits used).

  • Replace background generates a new background based on your prompt. This uses credits, depending on:

    • The Model you selected.

    • The Number of images generated.

    • The Render speed.

How to access Replace/Remove background

There are a few different ways to access the Replace/Remove background:

  1. When viewing an image in detail, click the Replace bg button or the dropdown arrow to access Remove bg.

  2. When browsing images, click the More menu and select the desired function.

  3. When importing/pasting an image, click the Replace bg button or the dropdown arrow to access Remove bg.

Remove background

There are two slightly different ways to use "Background Removal": either directly while viewing an image or by using the Canvas feature. Each behaves a bit differently.

When viewing an image

  • On the right-side panel, click the down arrow right next to the Replace bg button to access the popup menu and select Remove bg.

  • The window will update with the new image, now with the background removed and transparent. This image is automatically saved in your Creations.

  • The image is available for download as is.

When in Canvas

If you clicked Open in Canvas or if you were already in Canvas then:

  • Select the image for which you want the background to be removed.

  • Click on Remove bg on the right-side panel.

Edit background mode

When in Edit background mode, you have access to different tools to refine the background’s masked/transparent areas:

  1. Rectangle Mask: Create a mask from a rectangular shape.

  2. Lasso Mask: Create a mask from a freeform shape.

  3. Brush Mask: Create a mask from a freeform round brush. You can increase or decrease the brush size using the bracket keys [ ] or by clicking the dropdown menu (the little down arrow on the right) to access the size slider.

  4. Erase: Toggle the erase mode, allowing you to restore parts of the deleted background using the mask tools.

  5. Invert: Invert the selection, making the background visible while hiding the visible subject.

When done editing the background, you can:

  1. Cancel: Cancel any background removal or refinement and revert to the original image.

  2. Save: Click to save the current image with the background removed. Alternatively, click the drop-down menu (the little down arrow on the right) and select "Save copy" to save a copy of the image with the background removed while keeping the original image intact.

Once the background has been removed, you can either download the image using the "Download" function in the left-hand panel, or continue working with the image in Canvas. In either case, the image will also be available in your Creations tab.

You can achieve better results with "Background Removal" by enlarging your images using the "Upscale" feature beforehand. The outcome will be sharper and more precise with an image that has a higher number of pixels to begin with.

Replace background

The Replace background feature provides a quick and easy way to replace the background behind the main subject of an image with a new one based on a prompt.

For example, the background of a studio photo featuring a perfume bottle can be replaced with a more visually appealing scene, such as cascading water.

After clicking Remove bg, you’ll be prompted to describe the new background you’d like to apply to the image in the prompt box.

Click Replace. The generated images will be available either in the Creations page of the website or directly in Canvas, depending on where the action was performed.

As the Ai will try to integrate the image into the new background as harmoniously as possible, it may make a few minor modifications to the image's edges.

The right-side panel will change to reflect the new options and information. To further refine the transparent background, click the Edit background button that has now replaced the former Remove bg button. You will then be transferred to the Canvas in .

You will enter .

On can also view the before and after by clicking the Split view button at the top right.
