# Buying Extra Credits

Buy Ideogram credits, set up auto recharge, and understand payment setup, pending purchases and pay-as-you-go balances.

You can buy credits with or without a plan. One credit costs one US cent. The steps below cover your personal wallet and shared prepaid organization wallets; a Team plan uses [member top-ups](#team-members) instead.

## Add credits

1. Select the workspace you want to fund, then click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar.
2. Select **Wallet & Billing**.
3. In the **Credit balance** card, click **Add credits**.

4. Choose **One-time purchase**.
5. Pick $10, $20, $50 or $100, or enter an amount from $1 to $300. The dialog shows how many credits you'll get.
6. Click **Purchase $X**. If you haven't saved a card yet, you'll add one first.

If you have a plan, **Buy credits** in the user menu also works. Subscribers can also click **Buy extra credits** on their plan card under **Settings** → **Plans**.

Only owners and admins manage a prepaid organization's shared wallet. If you use the separate developer platform, select the API workspace in its switcher and open **Billing** to add credits. See [Enterprise Prepaid](/plans-and-billing/enterprise-prepaid.md).

### Does saving a payment method buy credits?

Saving a card and buying credits are separate steps. After payment setup, return to the credit dialog, review the amount and confirm the purchase.

If the embedded payment form can't load, you may see **Continue on Stripe**. Save the payment method on Stripe, then return to Ideogram to continue. Allow pop-ups if the secure setup window is blocked. **Waiting for your saved payment method…** means the app is waiting for setup confirmation; it doesn't confirm a credit purchase.

### Why hasn't my balance updated after a purchase?

The confirmation distinguishes an updated wallet from a purchase still being processed:

| Message | What it means |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Credits added** | The app has seen your wallet balance increase. |
| **Purchase still processing** | The purchase was accepted, but the app hasn't seen the balance update yet. |
| **Could not load your wallet balance. No purchase was submitted.** | The app stopped before submitting a purchase. Try again. |

For a processing purchase, check the selected workspace's balance and [invoice history](/plans-and-billing/billing-and-subscriptions/invoices-receipts-and-tax-details.md) before submitting another purchase. A balance-loading problem after acceptance doesn't establish that payment failed. Contact support with the charge and invoice details if it remains unresolved.

## Auto recharge

Auto recharge buys credits for you when your balance runs low, so long jobs don't stop halfway.

1. Click your avatar and select **Wallet & Billing**.
2. Click **Turn on auto recharge** in the **Credit balance** card.
3. Set a **Trigger balance** from $5 to $900, in whole US dollars.
4. Set a **Recharge balance** from $10 to $1,000, also in whole US dollars. It must be at least $10 above the trigger.
5. Click **Turn on auto recharge**.

When your balance drops below the trigger, Ideogram charges your card to bring it back up to the recharge balance.

The separate developer platform uses **minimum balance threshold** and **top-up balance** for these settings. Review its confirmation before saving: enabling or changing auto recharge may trigger an immediate charge.

### Change or stop auto recharge

1. Click your avatar and select **Wallet & Billing**.
2. Click **Manage auto recharge**.
3. Click **Save changes** after you edit the amounts, or click **Turn off auto recharge**.

## How purchased credits work

* You spend them only after your monthly plan credits run out.
* They expire 365 days after you buy them.
* They don't depend on your subscription. If you cancel, or your plan ends, you can still use them until they expire.

## Pay as you go

You don't need a plan to use Ideogram. Without one, you can buy credits and spend them as you go. After you've funded your wallet, your plan shows as **Pay as you go** in the user menu and on **Wallet & Billing**.

### Start pay as you go

1. Go to **Settings** → **Plans**.
2. Open the **Credits** tab, if shown.
3. On the **Pay as you go** card, pick an amount ($5–$100).
4. Click **Get started**.

Pay as you go isn't open to accounts with an active subscription. To switch to it, [cancel your subscription](/plans-and-billing/billing-and-subscriptions/cancelling-your-subscription.md); it opens up when your paid period ends.

The Credits tab and purchase options can vary by account and app layout. If you don't see the card, use **Wallet & Billing** → **Add credits** where available. Purchases aren't available inside the iOS app.

## Team members

On a seat-based Team plan, members can't buy team credits themselves. The owner buys them for each member, $20 to $200 at a time (400 credits per $4). See [Team Plan](/plans-and-billing/team-plan.md#adding-credits-for-a-member). For a pooled organization wallet, see [Enterprise Prepaid](/plans-and-billing/enterprise-prepaid.md).

## Subscribed through the iOS app?

You can't buy personal-wallet credits on the web while your personal plan is billed through the App Store. An authorized manager can still fund a separately billed organization wallet on the web; see the [Enterprise Prepaid exception](/plans-and-billing/enterprise-prepaid.md#what-if-my-personal-plan-is-billed-through-apple). Purchases aren't available inside the iOS app. See [Subscriptions Through the iOS App](/plans-and-billing/billing-and-subscriptions/ios-app-subscriptions.md).
